Built 1906 by William Müller for the theatre director Max Reinhardt, by converting a casino and ballroom (built 1850 by F. W. Deichmann). Opened 8 Nov 1906 with Ibsen's Gespenster. 1906-1920 directed by Max Reinhardt. 1937 auditorium alterations, installation of a box by Erich Schütte. Damaged in World War II. Re-opened 1946. 1955 and 1963 restorations. 1980-1983 major restoration by Ernst Schütte. 300 seats. The theatre shares a common box office hall with the neighbouring Deutsches Theater. Used for drama performances by the Deutsches Theater state drama company. (English)
