Bel teatro storico, eretto nel qua­driennio 1838-41 dall’arch. France­sco Vandelli. Più volte restaurato, l’edifìcio con­serva ancora il suo tipico aspetto ottocentesco e ospita regolari sta­gioni liriche, concertistiche e di prosa a cura dell’ATER. Ha una capienza di 1300 posti e fa parte dei cosiddetti « teatri di tradizione ». (Italian)
Built 1838-1841 as Nuovo Teatro dell'Illustrissima Comunità by Francesco Vandelli. Painted curtain by Adeodato Malatesta. Funded by the city of Modena, the box owners of the old Teatro Comunale (at Via Emilia), and Duke Francesco IV. d'Este. Opened 2 Oct 1841 with Alessandro Gandini's opera Adelaide di Borgogna al Castello di Canossa. 1869 new auditorium ceiling. 1935 stage extension, rebuilindg of orchestra pit. 1996-1998 major exterior and interior restaurations, including restauration of the painted curtain. Re-opened 1998. In October 2007 renamed Teatro comunale Luciano Pavarotti in honour of the Modena-born tenor, Luciano Pavarotti (1935-2007). Used for opera performances and concerts. (English)
