Ancient Roman theatre, built in the 2th century on Hellenistic foundations. 16000-17000 seats. During political troubles during the 4th century, a new fortification wall for the city of Side took advantage of the high back wall of the stage building. During the 5th/6th century the theatre was used as an open-air church, the parados sections decorated with floor mosaics and transformed into small chapels. (English)
