Built 1863-1864 by Charles Duval. Opened 3 Feb 1865 as Le Grand Café Chinois-Théâtre Ba-ta-clan. Named after Jacques Offenbach's 1855 operetta, Ba-ta-clan. 1950 major rebuilding. Used as a music venue. On 13 Nov 2005 site of an Islamist terrorist mass-shooting attack during a rock concert, killing 90 people and injuring hundreds more. (English)
