The Association was set up in 1911 and is composed of professionals specialized in performance in general and more particularly theatre. The archive collections covering the 19th and 20th centuries dealing with their different lines of work are now very extensive.Together with La Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris, it is one of the most frequently visited documentation centers by research workers from all over the world. The collections go to the very heart of the too often underrated direct sources of creation of plays, operas, ballets and all other forms of performing arts, with documents that are to be found nowhere else; unpublished works, manuscript notes by those involved in original stage versions, production books, letters, stage management notes, sketches, costume designs, set designs, scale models, thousands of photos of productions, programs, drawings, posters and press articles. Thanks to today's new technologies, all these collections are becoming available.Scans are working. We have a long way to go, but a start had to be made and things are progressing. (English)
