Opened 25 May 1892 as Teatro Piedad. 1898 renamed Teatro Argentino. Destroyed by a fire on 2 May 1973, when religious fanatics committed arson to prevent a performance of Andrew Llody Webber's rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar. Remains demolished in favour of a parking lot. (English)
