Built 1787-1788 as Stadttheater by Kremer within the walls of the Thick Tower (Dicker Turm, Turnul Gros), a tower of the city walls of Hermannstadt. Opened June 1788. 1904 rebuilding. Also known as Deutsches Theater. Later renamed Teatrul Orășenesc and Sala Thalia. 2004 renovations. Ca. 800 seats. Used as a concert hall. Home to the Filarmonicii de Stat orchestra. (English)
