In maart 1832 verklaarde Daguerre zichzelf failliet. De redenen voor deze mislukking zijn onduidelijk, maar er wordt aangenomen dat het te wijten was aan de gevolgen van een cholera-epidemie in Parijs, waardoor het voor ondernemers erg moeilijk werd om de show draaiende te houden en pas drie jaar later, in 1835, kwam de show weer op gang.
