Built 1842-1852 by Pietro Valente. Opened 1852 as Teatro Elisabetta. 1860 renamed Teatro Vittorio Emanuele in honour of the Italian King, Vittorio Emanuele II. Damaged by an earthquake on 28 Dec 1908. Restored until 1980. Re-opened 25 April 1985 with Verdi's Aida. 2.212 seats. (English)
