Built 1787-1791 by Carl Gotthard Langhans for the Prussian king, Friedrich Wilhelm II. Curtain by Johann Christoph Kimpfel. Opened 3 July 1791 with Antonio Salieri's Il Talismano. Ca. 700-800 seats. 1817 auditorium alterations. Closed 1881. Subsequently used as a furniture warehouse. Interior destroyed by bombs in 1943. - In the 1950s, exterior rebuilding to the original designs, interior reconstruction as a museum to completely altered plans. 1960-2009 used by the Museum für Vor- und Frühgeschichte. It is planned that the building will be used as Hohenzollernmuseum. (English)
