context
The theatre was the only permanent theatre in Gothenburg until 1816. (English)
In 1786, the Comedy House was the first theatre in Swedish history to show “The Marriage of Figaro, and in 1787, Shakespeare's play “Hamlet”, much earlier than the theatres in Stockholm. (English)
The theatre was first run by Johan von Blanc, then by Gustaf Simson and finally by Lovisa Simson, Sweden's first female theater director, in partnership with first Andreas Widerberg and later Johan Petersson. (English)
The theatre also arranged public masquerade balls, concerts, opera and ballet. Foreign opera such as French pantomime artists, Italian opera and English circus artists and other travelling guest artists also performed at the theatre. (English)
