Opened 10 June 1933. Home to the Barter Theatre company, founded by Robert Porterfield, who worked with unemployed actors during the Great Depression of 1933 - the admission price advertised at the opening was 35 cents or the equivalent in produce (hence the theatre's name). Since 1946, State Theatre of Virginia. 505 seats. (English)
