Built 1910-1911 by Ernst Vetterlein. Opened 5 Nov 1911. Severely damaged in World War II. Subsequently rebuilt. Re-opened 5 Sep 1949 with Richard Strauss's opera Der Rosenkavalier. Used for opera and ballet performances by the resident ensembles as well as drama performances by touring companies. (English)
