Built 1908-1909 by Otto Rasche. Opened 25 Sep 1909 as Stadttheater with Lessing's Nathan der Weise. 1929 renamed in honour of the German playwright, Gotthold Ephraim Lessing (1729-1781). Closed 2007 due to safety concerns. 2010-2013 major renovations and interior rebuildings. Re-opened May 2013. Used for guest performances. (English)
