Built 1897-1898 by Arwed Rossbach. Opened 1 Oct 1898 as Stadttheater with Friedrich Schiller's drama Die Jungfrau von Orléans. Severely damaged by bombs on 10 Apr 1945. Subsequently rebuilt. Re-opened 15 Oct 1945. 1991 renamed Vogtlandtheater Plauen after the surrounding region, the Vogtland. Used for opera, ballet and performances by the resident Theater Plauen-Zwickau companies.
