Built 1836-1838 as Stadttheater by Johann Traugott Heinig. Opened 7 Feb 1838. Used for opera and drama performances. 1863-1865 rebuilding. Closed 1909 in favour of the Neues Stadttheater. Re-opened 1925 as Schauspielhaus and used exclusively for drama performances. Ca. 1930 various extensions. Ca. 900 seats. Destroyed by bombs in 1945. Remains later demolished. (English)
