Czech National Theatre, built 1868-1881 by Josef Zítek. Provisionally opened 11 June 1881 in presence of the Austrian crown prince with the world premiere of Bedřich Smetana's opera Libuše. Completely destroyed by a fire on 11 August 1881. Rebuilt 1881-1883 by Josef Schulz. Re-opened 18 November 1883, again with Smetana's Libuše. 1977-1983 major renovation (with addition of a new building for technical rooms, a restaurant, and a new theatre, Nová Scéna, by Pavel Kupka and Karel Práger). Re-opened 18 November 1983, again with Smetana's Libuse. 1598 seats. (English)
