Jugendstiel Von einer Bürgerinitiative zum Stadttheater Die Erbauung des Gießener Stadttheaters geht zurück auf eine Bürgerinitiative, die aus Anlass der 300-Jahrfeier der Universität eine feste Theaterspielstätte forderte. Für das neue Theater spendeten Gießener Bürger zwei Drittel der Bausumme. Daher steht noch heute über dem Portal geschrieben: „Ein Denkmal bürgerlichen Gemeinsinns. Ein Denkmal bürgerlichen Gemeinsinns Eröffnet wurde das Stadttheater Gießen am 27. Juli 1907 mit VORSPIEL AUF DEM THEATER aus Goethes Faust I, DER ZERBROCHENE KRUG von Kleist sowie WALLENSTEINS LAGER von Schiller. (English)
