Damaged by bomby in 1945, subsequently rebuilt and re-opened 1946. 1954 and 1962 renovations. 1969 renamed Kino der Deutsch-Sowjetischen Freundschaft. Closed 1980. 1981 converted into a theatre and re-opened as Neues Theater. Subsequently extended in neighboring buildings to form the Kulturinsel cultural quarter with additional halls for puppet theatre, a studio theatre, a club and library. (English)
