Built 1903 as Iroquois Theatre. Opened November 1903. 1724 seats (1900 if standing room only). Originally advertised as absolutely fireproof, the theatre burnt during the performance of the musical comedy, Mr. Bluebeardon 30 Dec 1903. Over 600 audience members died in the deadliest theatre fire ever recorded. Interior damages subsequently repaired. Re-opened 1904 as Colonial Theatre. Demolished in 1926 in favour of the new Oriental Theatre (now Nederlander Theatre). (English)
