During German occupation in World War II, interim home to the Národní Divadlo company. 1948 renamed Divadlo Umění lidu [Artist People's Theatre]. 1954 nationalized and renamed Státní divadlo v Karlíne. 1961 renamed Hudebni divadlo Karlín [Karlín Music Theatre]. 1099 seats. Used for comedies with songs, operettas, musicals, ballets and concerts. (English)
