Built 1883-1885 as Stadttheater for the city of Fiume by Ferdinand Fellner & Hermann Helmer. Opened 5 October 1885 with Verdi's Aida. Later renamed Teatro Verdi. Later renamed in honour of the Croatian composer, Ivan Zajc (1832-1914) whose statue is located in front of the theatre. 1981 renovation and alterations. 1240 seats. (English)
