Built 1843-1846 as Teatro Comunale by Vincenzo Ghinelli for the city of Cesena, at the site of a previous theatre within the Palazzo Spada. Painted curtain by Antonio Pio. Opened 15 Aug 1846 with Donizetti's Maria di Rohan and the ballet, Beatrice di Gand. 1927 renamed in honour of the Italian tenor, Alessandro Bonci (1870-1940). 1996 restorations. Used for drama, opera, ballet performances and concerts. (English)

ERHT North Italian route The original stage sets by pietro Venier from Verona and the painted curtain by the local artist Antonio Pio are preserved as well as the area above the stage with its drums and three sound machines. (English)

Built between 1843 and 1846 to plans of the architect Vincenzo Ghinelli, the theatre features a neoclassical facade in the style of Piermarini and an auditorium by Francesco Migliari. The stage is said to be one of the biggest in Europe. (English)
