No heritage theatre machinery The restoration work on the theatre (2003-2006) enabled a shift in the relationship between stage and audience. In order to keep up with the needs of contemporary stage design, and simplify the process of receiving visiting productions, the decision was made to set the stage at horizontal level. Its street-level access also facilitates the task of bringing in and out new decors. In return, the slope of the pit area was increased significantly. (English)

Reconstruit après un incendie par Pierre- Thomas Baraguay et adossé au jardin du Luxembourg, au coeur du Paris rive gauche, il a été et demeure le témoin de bien des remous artistiques et politiques. Étroitement lié à l’État français, il est aujourd’hui l’un des six théâtres nationaux de France, entièrement subventionnés par le ministère de la Culture. « Théâtre de l’Europe » depuis 1983, son action est « orientée vers la création et la recherche afin de favoriser le progrès de l’esthétique théâtrale nationale et mondiale ».
